Thimphu to Punakha

The day started with a game of golf at the Royal Timphu Golf Club, the only club in Bhutan and an opportunity not to be wasted. There were 7 players forming 2 teams. Paddy, Dougie, Xavier and I played against Bill, Ålan and Roger. To cut a long story short I played appallingly, Paddy played backhand as he is left handed and was playing with right handed clubs and our two ringers, Dougie and Xavier, did not live up to their billing. We lost 3 over against 2 over. Good fun was had by all. A quick beer and then we set off for Punakha to the east. This is our last stop before our long run south, which some teams aren't taking.

If today's road is typical of the next few days we are in for some tough driving. The road ran upwards for about 25km to a rest stop. The road was good and the traffic light. Having stopped at the top for pictures etc we set off with the two Bentley's and almost immediately the road disintegrated. It was long slow road gently descending with workers repairing the road all the way down. We simply didn't go faster than 25kph the whole way down. As we worked our way through the rock slides we were constantly aware of the vertical drops to our left. It was a road made for adventure ralliers. We had some trouble with our brakes with them locking up when too much pressure was exerted too quickly but it was never unsafe. We will have a look at them tomorrow before we set off. It was a fantastic days driving and one which we simply won't forget.

We are all here safe and sound, tired but what a day!
